The Cariboo stretches from southern Cache Creek to northern Hixon and is bordered by the Cariboo Mountains to the east and the Fraser River to the west. It is only 4 ½ hours from the Lower Mainland and Vancouver. Our region, named after the once abundant woodland Caribou, was the first part of BC to be settled by the non-indigenous people, playing a large role in early settlement of Canada.
The North Cariboo consists of heavily forested areas where once major gold fields were located in the famous Gold Rush area. The Central Cariboo has a range from rare inland rainforest areas and mountain lakes to arid, lava formed canyons. The South Cariboo has rolling grasslands, Pine and Aspen forests, semi-add deserts, peaceful lakes, granite walled river gorges and breathtaking canyons. All of this makes up the Gold Rush Trail in the 1860’s which brought eager seekers to make their fortune from all comers of the world. Mining towns and roadhouses are still here today for people to explore and relive the past excitement. Barkerville is one of these historic sites that has re-created this historical era. This beautiful Cariboo Waterfront Estate resides amidst all these wonderful places and landscapes.
